My sons and daughters, students of Faculty of Engineering, I extend my warmest welcome at the start of the academic year. I congratulate all the students, both new and returning, on the new academic year. To our new students, I am especially pleased to congratulate you on your first year of university. I also commend your choice of the prestigious profession of engineering, so that you may become the engineers of the future, bearing the responsibility of advancing our nation. You are the descendants of the builders of the pyramids and great civilizations, and you are required to follow the path to bring our beloved Egypt to the forefront among the nations of modern civilizations. You are moving from the secondary stage, in which you achieved honorable excellence, to the university stage, in which we wish you continued excellence and advancement. You are going through more than one important transformation. First, you are moving from a stage characterized by control, supervision, and guidance at home and school in one way or another, to a stage where you have a greater degree of freedom. This freedom must be accompanied on your part by a greater sense of responsibility so that it achieves its intended purpose of developing your creative abilities and does not, God forbid, become a  path to disruption or loss. Also, in the transition from secondary to university, you will find that the role of the university is not to impart available information to you, as this information is currently changing at a rapid pace, but rather the role of the university is to equip you with the skills to search for information and adapt it to benefit from it. The university’s role is not merely to provide you with information, but rather to equip you with the abilities, skills, and mindset necessary to acquire knowledge throughout your long and, God willing, successful professional life. I also extend my greetings and appreciation to all the faculty and staff of the college. And for performing their duties to the fullest extent since the establishment of the faculty of Engineering until today, I pray to God Almighty that we may be united in progress, prosperity, and advancement. As the Secretary of the faculty, peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
