Department Overview

Electrical engineering An engineering discipline concerned with the study of applications, design and analysis of electrical science, electronics, communications, machines, electrical forces and computers with their physical and software components
The science of electrical engineering is considered a sign of progress and civilization in various fields of life, and developed amazingly where it entered every house and every public and private facility and everyone seeks to introduce electricity, automation and electronics in all areas, including life and work
The study began in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Sohag University, with the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering since the establishment of the faculty in the academic year 2008/2009, and in the academic year 2017/2018, the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering was established. In view of the continuous development in electrical engineering science
Electrical Studies in the Computers and Artificial Intelligence program began in the academic year 2023/2024 to make the Department of Electrical Engineering include three distinct programs.

Scientific Groups (available programs):

The Department of Electrical Engineering graduates engineers in several disciplines supervised by three scientific groups in the department:
1. Communications and Electronics Group
2. Power Group and Electrical Machinery
3.Computers, Systems and Artificial Intelligence Group.

First: Electronics and Communication Research: The activity of this research group includes:
1. Electronics engineering which covers elements, circuits, systems, measurements, and electronic equipment
1. Electrical communication engineering, which deals with signals in terms of processing, transmission, transmission media, signal detection means, applications of electronic systems and circuits in various branches of electrical communications, including
Wired and wireless communications and include fixed and mobile communication systems, satellite communication systems, fiber optics, etc.

Secondly: Electrical Forces and Machinery Research: The activity of this research group includes:
1. The field of electrical power engineering, which is the engineering discipline concerned with the generation, transmission, distribution, and exploitation of electrical energy.
2. The field of electrical machine engineering, which is the engineering discipline that deals with the question of interconversion between electrical energy and mechanical work
3-The field of high voltage engineering, which is the engineering specialty that concerns and deals with scientific problems related to transmission plants and their components and all related to the protection of the electrical power system.

Third: Computer and AI research and the activity of this research group includes:
1. The field of fundamentals of computer engineering and artificial intelligence, which is the engineering discipline concerned with machine learning theories and how to improve the performance of multiple models used in various fields of artificial intelligence
2. The field of computer engineering and artificial intelligence applications, which is the engineering discipline concerned with applying models to image, sound, and natural language processing as key axes in machine learning in general.

Speech by Head of Department

Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering at Faculty of Engineering, Sohag University, Sohag, Arab Republic of Egypt. The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the first departments in the Faculty of Engineering – Sohag University which welcomed students in the academic year 2008/2009. Electrical engineering is the fastest growing branch of knowledge during the last century.
It is the most vibrant, diverse and ever-evolving engineering discipline. The department aims to prepare highly competent outstanding engineers in various fields of electrical engineering (electronics and communication engineering, power engineering and electrical machinery) to work in various government and industrial establishments. It is my honor and privilege we all agree that the science of electrical engineering and its development has a great impact on the progress of various fields of science and the development of human life, the majority of vital fields depend mainly in their origin and development on electrical engineering.

The vision of the Department of Electrical Engineering is for the Department to become a leader in engineering education, scientific research, and community service in all branches of electrical engineering.

The department aims to provide an outstanding engineering education by:

Providing students with the requirements and skills needed to compete in the labor market.
Providing students with the requirements and skills needed to compete in the labor market.
To foster profession ethics and community service culture among students.
Develop students’ abilities and develop their self-directed learning and lifelong learning skills.
Polarization and recruitment of distinguished staff members in the fields of electrical engineering.

Engineer/ Mohamed El Sayed Mohamed Salim, Assistant Lecturer in the Department, received a personal scholarship for his doctoral studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada.
Engineer/ Hussain Adel Taha, Assistant Professor of the Department, received a personal scholarship for his doctoral studies from faculty of Engineering, Montreal Polytechnique University, Canada.
Engineer/ Imad El Din Abbas Mazid Taha Assistant Lecturer in the Department received a personal scholarship for PhD study from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States of America
